Series Background

Mermaid Melody Pichi Pichi Pitch is a mahou shoujo (magical girl) series written by Yokote Michiko and illustrated by Hanamori Pink. It ran in the monthly Nakayoshi magazine from 2002 to 2005, with 32 chapters compiled in 7 volumes. The first anime season ran from April 2003 to March 2004 with 52 episodes, and the second season, MMPPP Pure, ran from April to December 2004 with 39 episodes.

The Story

Lucia is the 13 year old mermaid princess of the North Pacific Ocean kingdom, one of the seven mermaid kingdoms of the sea. One fateful night seven years ago, she rescues a boy who fell overboard a ship in the stormy seas and uses her pink pearl to revive him. Lucia must now assume a human form and go up to the surface world to find that boy and get her pearl back.

She meets Hanon and Lina, fellow mermaid princesses who are determined to help fight the evil forces currently threatening the peace of the ocean world. Lucia manages to get her pearl back, which enables her to transform into Pink Pearl Voice to fight evil with the power of music ♪ She must now gather all seven mermaid princesses and their pearls in order to summon Aqua Regina, the Goddess of the Ocean, in order to restore peace in the ocean.

Lucia has also fallen in love all over again with Kaito, the boy she rescued as a child. The good news: he is also in love with Lucia, the mermaid who rescued him. The bad news: she cannot reveal her true identity, or she will turn into foam! How in the world is she going to make him realize that she is the mermaid he has been searching for all his life?
